The Department of Health and Human Services is soliciting white papers from several industry leaders as part of Secretary Leavitt's Personalized Health Care Initiative. The overarching goal is not only to help HHS identify opportunities, barriers and best practices in personalized medicine but also to develop a plan through which our health care system can adapt to change without causing a disruption or threat to the system as a whole. HHS has asked NVCA to develop a white paper that would provide a framework for the economic assessment of private capital investment opportunities that are specially targeted to technology, care delivery services, and information management systems that support personalized approaches to health care. HHS believes that the venture capital industry's perspective on these issues is an integral component in developing a framework to ensure the advancement of personalized medicine.

HHS has also invited the NVCA to participate in a private summit in October with HHS Secretary Leavitt, Dr. Slayton Christensen, Harvard Business School and other experts in the field to discuss the white papers and key components that need to be addressed to ensure the advancement of personalized health care.
