NVCA Collects Job Numbers from Current Portfolios PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, September 07 2008

This Spring, the NVCA asked its member firms to submit the number of jobs represented in their current portfolio of companies.  As many know, we have extremely reliable data on the number of jobs at public companies that were once venture backed — 10.4 million jobs in 2006 according to Global Insight. While this number is extremely powerful, it is also incomplete. We wanted to capture what was being created in the earlier stages of venture investing.

With approximately 15 percent of member firms responding, the NVCA now has a database of close to half a million jobs sorted by industry and geography as well as projections for growth or decline for each company. We are currently in the process of analyzing this data so that we can present a truly accurate estimate of jobs created in the current NVCA member portfolio. These figures will be particularly helpful as we continue to educate members of Congress about the unique contribution of venture capital to job creation in the United States.  Thank you to all who responded!
